Living the Gospel Among Our Neighbors · Session 10 of 14
Shared work across disagreement
Step 1
Read
Jeremiah 29:7; Romans 12:18; Galatians 6:10
Use your preferred translation.
What good can we pursue together without pretending our differences have disappeared?
Step 2
Observe
- What does the passage say? Restate it in your own words before interpreting it.
- Who is speaking, and to whom?
- What is the surrounding context — what comes just before and after?
- Which words or phrases repeat or stand out?
Step 3
Discuss
- Jeremiah tells exiles to seek the welfare of Babylon. Why would God care about that city’s good?
- Galatians 6:10 says do good to everyone, especially believers. How do those two commitments fit together?
- What shared goods — safety, clean water, schools — can people of different beliefs work toward?
Step 4
Apply
Is there a community effort you avoid because of who else is involved?
Step 5
Practice
Join or support one local effort for the common good this week.
Step 6
Pray
Pray for the welfare of your town or city and ask God how you can contribute to it.
Facilitator notes
- Invite participation without requiring personal disclosure.
- Let people disagree respectfully.
- Avoid speculation about someone’s salvation or explaining why a particular tragedy happened.
- Never pressure participants to describe trauma publicly.
- Discuss beliefs honestly without expecting any participant to represent an entire community.
