Faith Under Pressure · Session 13 of 14
Remembering what God has done
Step 1
Read
Deuteronomy 6:4–9; Psalm 78:1–8
Use your preferred translation.
How do stories, meals, celebrations, and ordinary habits carry faith across generations?
Step 2
Observe
- What does the passage say? Restate it in your own words before interpreting it.
- Who is speaking, and to whom?
- What is the surrounding context — what comes just before and after?
- Which words or phrases repeat or stand out?
Step 3
Discuss
- Deuteronomy 6 places God’s words in homes, journeys, and doorways. Why tie faith to ordinary places?
- Psalm 78 says the next generation should “set their hope in God.” What role does storytelling play?
- What happens to a community’s faith when it stops remembering?
Step 4
Apply
What is one story of God’s faithfulness in your life that the people closest to you have never heard?
Step 5
Practice
Tell someone younger than you one story of how God has been faithful to you or your family.
Step 6
Pray
Thank God for His faithfulness to past generations and ask Him to help you pass that memory on.
Facilitator notes
- Invite participation without requiring personal disclosure.
- Let people disagree respectfully.
- Avoid speculation about someone’s salvation or explaining why a particular tragedy happened.
- Never pressure participants to describe trauma publicly.
- Discuss beliefs honestly without expecting any participant to represent an entire community.
