Faith Under Pressure · Session 14 of 14
Hope after survival
Step 1
Read
Jeremiah 29:4–7; Romans 8:18–25
Use your preferred translation.
What does faithful living look like when life continues but remains changed?
Step 2
Observe
- What does the passage say? Restate it in your own words before interpreting it.
- Who is speaking, and to whom?
- What is the surrounding context — what comes just before and after?
- Which words or phrases repeat or stand out?
Step 3
Discuss
- Jeremiah tells exiles to build, plant, marry, and seek the city’s welfare. Why would ordinary life be God’s instruction in exile?
- Paul speaks of creation groaning and believers waiting. How can groaning and hope exist together?
- What is the difference between moving on and living faithfully with what has changed?
Step 4
Apply
In a season that has not returned to normal, what is one thing you could build or plant?
Step 5
Practice
Do one act this week that invests in your community’s welfare — helping a neighbor, volunteering, or praying for local leaders.
Step 6
Pray
Ask God for patient hope that keeps building in the present while waiting for the redemption still to come.
Facilitator notes
- Invite participation without requiring personal disclosure.
- Let people disagree respectfully.
- Avoid speculation about someone’s salvation or explaining why a particular tragedy happened.
- Never pressure participants to describe trauma publicly.
- Discuss beliefs honestly without expecting any participant to represent an entire community.
