Understanding the Last Days · Session 14 of 14
Watchfulness without date-setting
Step 1
Read
Matthew 24:36–44; Acts 1:6–11; 1 Thessalonians 5:1–11
Use your preferred translation.
How can we live expectantly without claiming knowledge God has withheld?
Step 2
Observe
- What does the passage say? Restate it in your own words before interpreting it.
- Who is speaking, and to whom?
- What is the surrounding context — what comes just before and after?
- Which words or phrases repeat or stand out?
Step 3
Discuss
- Jesus says no one knows the day or hour. What does He tell His followers to do instead of calculating?
- In Acts 1, the disciples ask about timing. How does Jesus redirect them?
- Paul describes being “children of the light.” What habits does he connect with watchfulness?
Step 4
Apply
Where are you tempted either to ignore Christ’s return or to obsess over its timing? What would balance look like?
Step 5
Practice
Do one task this week that you have been postponing, treating faithfulness in the ordinary as part of readiness.
Step 6
Pray
Ask God to keep you awake, sober, and loving, content to leave the timing in His hands.

- Let people disagree respectfully.
- Avoid speculation about someone’s salvation or explaining why a particular tragedy happened.
- Never pressure participants to describe trauma publicly.
- Discuss beliefs honestly without expecting any participant to represent an entire community.
