Understanding the Last Days · Session 6 of 14
The mark and economic coercion
Step 1
Read
Revelation 13:11–18; 14:9–12
Use your preferred translation.
How are worship, allegiance, and buying and selling connected in these passages?
Step 2
Observe
- What does the passage say? Restate it in your own words before interpreting it.
- Who is speaking, and to whom?
- What is the surrounding context — what comes just before and after?
- Which words or phrases repeat or stand out?
Step 3
Discuss
- According to the text, who is required to receive the mark, and what is the stated consequence of refusal?
- Revelation 14:12 calls for “the endurance of the saints.” Why is endurance the response asked for, rather than cleverness?
- How can economic pressure shape what people are willing to worship, even before any formal demand?
Step 4
Apply
Where does financial security or fear of losing it influence decisions you would otherwise make differently?
Step 5
Practice
Give something away this week — money, time, or a possession — as a practical reminder that provision comes from God.
Step 6
Pray
Ask God to loosen fear’s grip on your provision and to make you faithful if obedience costs you.
Facilitator notes
- Invite participation without requiring personal disclosure.
- Let people disagree respectfully.
- Avoid speculation about someone’s salvation or explaining why a particular tragedy happened.
- Never pressure participants to describe trauma publicly.
- Discuss beliefs honestly without expecting any participant to represent an entire community.
