Faith Under Pressure · Session 11 of 14
Faith within a divided household
Step 1
Read
Mark 9:24; 1 Corinthians 7:12–16; 1 Peter 3:1–2
Use your preferred translation.
How can family members remain loving when their convictions develop differently?
Step 2
Observe
- What does the passage say? Restate it in your own words before interpreting it.
- Who is speaking, and to whom?
- What is the surrounding context — what comes just before and after?
- Which words or phrases repeat or stand out?
Step 3
Discuss
- The father in Mark 9 says “I believe; help my unbelief.” How might that honesty help families where faith differs?
- Paul encourages believers to remain in mixed marriages when possible. What reasons does he give?
- Peter speaks of conduct winning family members “without a word.” What does that suggest about how faith is shared at home?
Step 4
Apply
With someone whose beliefs differ from yours, what would loving them well look like this week?
Step 5
Practice
Do one act of service for a family member this week without connecting it to a spiritual conversation.
Step 6
Pray
Pray for each member of your household by name, asking God to work in them and in you.
Facilitator notes
- Invite participation without requiring personal disclosure.
- Let people disagree respectfully.
- Avoid speculation about someone’s salvation or explaining why a particular tragedy happened.
- Never pressure participants to describe trauma publicly.
- Discuss beliefs honestly without expecting any participant to represent an entire community.
