Living the Gospel Among Our Neighbors · Session 13 of 14
Dignity for people who choose wrongly
Step 1
Read
Luke 6:27–36; Romans 12:14–21
Use your preferred translation.
Can we name a choice as wrong without becoming satisfied by the person’s suffering?
Step 2
Observe
- What does the passage say? Restate it in your own words before interpreting it.
- Who is speaking, and to whom?
- What is the surrounding context — what comes just before and after?
- Which words or phrases repeat or stand out?
Step 3
Discuss
- Jesus says to bless those who curse you. What does blessing someone involve?
- Romans 12:20 speaks of feeding your enemy. Why something so practical?
- What is the difference between longing for justice and enjoying someone’s downfall?
Step 4
Apply
Is there someone whose suffering you would quietly welcome? What does that reveal?
Step 5
Practice
Do something good this week for someone you believe has chosen wrongly.
Step 6
Pray
Ask God to guard you from contempt and to give you His mercy for those who oppose you.
Facilitator notes
- Invite participation without requiring personal disclosure.
- Let people disagree respectfully.
- Avoid speculation about someone’s salvation or explaining why a particular tragedy happened.
- Never pressure participants to describe trauma publicly.
- Discuss beliefs honestly without expecting any participant to represent an entire community.
