Understanding the Last Days · Session 1 of 14
Why study prophecy?
Step 1
Read
Titus 2:11–14; 2 Peter 3:8–14
Use your preferred translation.
How should expectation of Christ’s return change our conduct today?
Step 2
Observe
- What does the passage say? Restate it in your own words before interpreting it.
- Who is speaking, and to whom?
- What is the surrounding context — what comes just before and after?
- Which words or phrases repeat or stand out?
Step 3
Discuss
- In Titus 2, grace both saves and trains. What specific habits does Paul say grace teaches us to refuse and to practice?
- Peter connects God’s patience with the delay of the Day of the Lord. How does that change the way we think about waiting?
- When has interest in prophecy produced curiosity or anxiety rather than holiness? What made the difference?
Step 4
Apply
Which part of your ordinary week would look different if you lived it in light of Christ’s return?
Step 5
Practice
Read Titus 2:11–14 each morning this week and name one concrete way to live “self-controlled, upright, and godly” that day.
Step 6
Pray
Ask God to make your hope in Christ’s appearing produce patience, holiness, and love rather than fear.
Facilitator notes
- Invite participation without requiring personal disclosure.
- Let people disagree respectfully.
- Avoid speculation about someone’s salvation or explaining why a particular tragedy happened.
- Never pressure participants to describe trauma publicly.
- Discuss beliefs honestly without expecting any participant to represent an entire community.
