Faith Under Pressure · Session 3 of 14
Trust when provision disappears
Step 1
Read
Habakkuk 3:17–19; Matthew 6:25–34
Use your preferred translation.
How can we trust God while taking material needs seriously?
Step 2
Observe
- What does the passage say? Restate it in your own words before interpreting it.
- Who is speaking, and to whom?
- What is the surrounding context — what comes just before and after?
- Which words or phrases repeat or stand out?
Step 3
Discuss
- Habakkuk lists losses one after another. What does he choose to do in verse 18, and on what basis?
- Jesus says “your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.” How does that differ from saying needs do not matter?
- What is the difference between planning responsibly and being anxious about tomorrow?
Step 4
Apply
Which material worry most often crowds out your prayer? What concrete step could you take while trusting God with the rest?
Step 5
Practice
Each day this week, name one need God met that day and thank Him for it specifically.
Step 6
Pray
Ask God for daily provision and for joy in Him that does not depend on full fields.
Facilitator notes
- Invite participation without requiring personal disclosure.
- Let people disagree respectfully.
- Avoid speculation about someone’s salvation or explaining why a particular tragedy happened.
- Never pressure participants to describe trauma publicly.
- Discuss beliefs honestly without expecting any participant to represent an entire community.
