Understanding the Last Days · Session 3 of 14
The covenant and its breaking
Step 1
Read
Daniel 9:24–27; Matthew 24:15–22
Use your preferred translation.
What does the text establish about the covenant, desecration, and flight?
Step 2
Observe
- What does the passage say? Restate it in your own words before interpreting it.
- Who is speaking, and to whom?
- What is the surrounding context — what comes just before and after?
- Which words or phrases repeat or stand out?
Step 3
Discuss
- List what Daniel 9:27 actually says happens. Which parts of common teaching on this verse are interpretation rather than wording?
- Jesus refers directly to Daniel. What does He instruct His hearers to do, and how urgent is it?
- Why might Scripture describe a covenant whose breaking reveals the true intent of the one who made it?
Step 4
Apply
Where are you relying on an agreement or guarantee that could fail you? What would faithful preparation look like without fear?
Step 5
Practice
Read Daniel 9 slowly, including Daniel’s prayer in verses 1–19, and notice what he does before receiving the prophecy.
Step 6
Pray
Ask God for discernment to recognize false promises and for the humility Daniel showed in prayer.
