What does welcoming someone cost beyond opening a door?
Step 2
Observe
- What does the passage say? Restate it in your own words before interpreting it.
- Who is speaking, and to whom?
- What is the surrounding context — what comes just before and after?
- Which words or phrases repeat or stand out?
Step 3
Discuss
- Paul says to “seek to show hospitality.” Why seek, rather than wait for opportunity?
- Hebrews 13 links hospitality with remembering prisoners and the mistreated. What connects them?
- What makes hospitality different from entertaining guests?
Step 4
Apply
Whom could you welcome who would not usually be invited?
Step 5
Practice
Invite someone to share a meal or coffee this week, especially someone new or alone.
Step 6
Pray
Ask God for a generous, open home and heart that make room for others.
Facilitator notes
- Invite participation without requiring personal disclosure.
- Let people disagree respectfully.
- Avoid speculation about someone’s salvation or explaining why a particular tragedy happened.
- Never pressure participants to describe trauma publicly.
- Discuss beliefs honestly without expecting any participant to represent an entire community.
