Faith Under Pressure · Session 5 of 14
Fear, courage, and endurance
Step 1
Read
Psalm 56; James 1:2–8; Hebrews 10:32–39
Use your preferred translation.
How can fear be acknowledged without letting it decide our obedience?
Step 2
Observe
- What does the passage say? Restate it in your own words before interpreting it.
- Who is speaking, and to whom?
- What is the surrounding context — what comes just before and after?
- Which words or phrases repeat or stand out?
Step 3
Discuss
- David says, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” What does that sentence admit and what does it choose?
- James connects trials with steadfastness and asks for wisdom. Why might wisdom be what we most need in a trial?
- Hebrews 10 asks readers to remember earlier faithfulness. How can memory strengthen endurance?
Step 4
Apply
What fear is currently shaping a decision you face? What would obedience look like if fear were acknowledged but not obeyed?
Step 5
Practice
Memorize Psalm 56:3–4 and say it whenever a specific fear rises this week.
Step 6
Pray
Name your fears before God and ask Him for courage to take the next faithful step.
