Faith Under Pressure · Session 1 of 14
Faith when rescue is not promised
Step 1
Read
Daniel 3:16–18; Hebrews 11:32–40
Use your preferred translation.
What does obedience look like when deliverance may not come?
Step 2
Observe
- What does the passage say? Restate it in your own words before interpreting it.
- Who is speaking, and to whom?
- What is the surrounding context — what comes just before and after?
- Which words or phrases repeat or stand out?
Step 3
Discuss
- The three men say “But if not.” What do those words reveal about the basis of their faith?
- Hebrews 11 lists people who were delivered and people who were not. Why might the writer place them side by side?
- How can we pray boldly for rescue while also being prepared for God to answer differently?
Step 4
Apply
Is there something you are obeying God in only because you expect a particular outcome?
Step 5
Practice
Name one area where you are waiting for rescue, and write down what faithful obedience looks like there if rescue is delayed.
Step 6
Pray
Tell God honestly what you hope He will do, and ask for the faith to trust Him if He does not.
Facilitator notes
- Invite participation without requiring personal disclosure.
- Let people disagree respectfully.
- Avoid speculation about someone’s salvation or explaining why a particular tragedy happened.
- Never pressure participants to describe trauma publicly.
- Discuss beliefs honestly without expecting any participant to represent an entire community.
